the higher the os the more power it use and produce more heat. and when you pc not built for that it over heat (my theory). happen to my toshiba and a friend own he had i think vista and upgrade to 7ulti and it overheat when using it above norm for a period. when downgrade back mine it run smooth.

you people are so young to this ... if the fan is working and the heat sink is seated then is the terminal paste / grease. No dam OS will make it over heat like that  ... hold that  and  ... fix yuh face

Its the Heat Sink That Needs Cleaning for real, Not the Fan... Dumbest theory Ever... (No OS Upgrade can cause that so easily)
Fix them all the Time. only 15bills to take care of it.. simple thing 472-3716... Oh I have a store so U dont have to worry I've been doing this a long time..

I do chip level repairs and yall just sum novice ! Os can cause the chip to trigger the overheating, especially the aero theme on windows 7 which draws more power and build more heat on the chip which then cause the heat sink not able to transfer enough heat tru the vent ! Take a look at dv6000 reload os7 on that after 2 to 6 weeks thats a no display machine ! reflow will then give u couple days, lucky can get even a month ! The chip is faulty anyways... replacing chip 70% lifespan, replacing board a 95% lifespan... Two things must take note of... If machine constantly overheating and shuts off clean vent (dust blockage), if machine screen not coming up check memory or u have a board issue (check Bios, Gpu or Clock generator oe check all supplies) !

The only thing that will cause a machine to over heat is poor vents, fan not spinning fast enough or heat sink not seated properly. If a 3d desktop cause a system to over heat then the cooling system is messed up and would still do the same on any other OS if the machine is on long enough. I can fix this for free if i was idle enough, My skills and experience is way pass you and your petty comments. Oh yeah and what the F^&* is chip level repair ?are you going to rebuild the resistors in the processor ? use a blade to open it and bridge the l1 and l2 to slow it down and make it run cooler ? or are you just going to change the dam chip ? if so then my granny can do that . If you understands how a power supply works too you would know its parallel and not serial so the fan will always have the right voltage as long as the board is good and the bios is not messed up. Anyways no time for this crap and mango tree technicians

i did a reflow on a dv6000 and it lasted over a year and surprisingly its still working upon till this very day ,now thats amazing ....and its windows seven 64 bit .....thats the only part i not 100% agreed with jordon comment.

Everybody has their own opinion on what they think causes the overheating... your skill pass mines?! you just love to chat... whos name is more out there?! you will hear my name mention everydayy... "chip level repairs" is my thing, if you hear anyone with it, its me ! OK ! one of the toughest thing inna Jamaica ! Soon see me pon tvj, cvm n etc a showcase me talent ! PLUS+ am no technician who heats up intel chip and prays if it work, cause that shiit doesnt...
