Title: Find Yourself a Career
Post by: ShopinJA.com on January 12, 2009, 09:26:01 PM
Often persons confuse a job with a career. If you are not clear what the differences between the two, you may be holding yourself back and in the long run, not achieve your full potential.

A job is:

A regular activity performed in exchange for payment
A position in which one is currently employed

A Career is:

A chosen pursuit; a profession or occupation
The general course or progression of ones working life or ones professional achievements over time

The Bottom line:

What you are today is your job. What you've done over the past years and what you plan to be doing in the future is your career. So thinking "career" means thinking long-term.

When you think long term you realize:

Everything you do counts
Everything you do needs to have a good reason behind it
You have to make good decisions
Always think "What's my next step?"
What you do today determines your tomorrow
Mistakes can potentially haunt you for a long time

You should pay serious attention to your career. Your job feeds you and your family today. Your career will feed you and your family tomorrow and beyond.
