That's WAAYY too much text. Try getting some components that display each article in image format or have them scrolling or something. In my experience, when people see a lot of text, they're turned off.
Take a look at this template (http://template15.joomlart.com/ja_opal/)...it's jampacked with articles as well. However, they have main articles in a slideshow at the top, plus tabs to the right, videos, etc. I realize persons are into the news a lot lately, so you have a good idea there. However, you need to present it in a format that will make the viewer want to come back; and believe you me...having a long page of text is not the way. You can also use the Gleaner's & Star's website as guidelines.
