PC2100 and PC2700 and PC3200 all pretty much share the same socket but the key will be whether the machine can take the PC3200 which is a lot easier to find. Also there may be limitations as to the max amount of memory the board will support.

PC2700 is DDR333 and PC 3200 is DDR400. Both are a little out dated but I've seen the DDR 400 in a few places. One Stop had some a little while back and Watt's New in the plaza had some recently but you can guess the price. If all else fails Amazon is your friend.

Realistically though it probably better if he saves that money and buys a new board processor and memory even if is not the latest and greatest. But he alone knows the depth of his pockets especially if is just word excel and internet he is using it for.
