One of the selling points of the Blackberry device is the Blackberry messenger service, in a nutshell it allows anybody with a Blackberry device to send messages to other Blackberry users once you exchange your device’s PIN#’s, these messages are pushed in real-time so it gives for a nice, clean and speedy way to communicate with other Blackberry users. The downside is that the interface has seen little to no change over the past few years. With more and more people flocking to blackberry’s it seems RIM has started to polish up allot of things with regards to the Blackberry OS and the Interface, hence we now can see what seems to be a new Blackberry messenger on the horizon..
Some new features should include-
- Avatar support — set your own avatar using the Camera or saved photo on your device (this is displayed locally as well as shown next to your Messenger name on your friend’s buddy list)
- GPS location integration — you can now set permissions so friends can always see your location, have to request it each time, or never can see it
- Proximity sensor — we’re guessing this will let you know if you’re within a certain distance of friends (pending, of course, you’re both set to share locations freely with each other)
- Set conversation subjects — this will allow you to organize your convos on the main Messenger screen and label them with subjects to keep track of all your conversations
- Homescreen support — you can pin/sticky actual Messenger contacts directly to the homescreen for easy access!

The Avatar support and GPS integration should proove to be well needed additions and will most definately compliment the Blackberry messenger service. For the full scoop and lots of pics check out the BoyGeniusReport
BlackBerry Messenger On Your Desktop?
Posted on CrackBerry.com on 20 Jun 2009 11:00 by Bla1ze

The applications pictured above all have one thing in common except one. They all have desktop applications available for install. So, I have to ask, how many of you all out there would like to see an application developed for your desktop that would allow you to use your BlackBerry Messenger on your desktop? Think about it. There have been a lot of times while sitting at my PC where I have spent more time talking on my BlackBerry Messenger then actually utilizing my PC, which is right there in front of me.
Now I know I am not the only one out there that would like to see this, I actually asked the question on Twitter and many responded that yes, they indeed would also love to see this happen. Implementation issues aside, I’m positive that it can be done. In fact I’m 100% percent certain it can be as there have been many rumblings in the past that the application already exists and is currently available to RIM insiders and has been for over a year now.
So I guess the real question is when will RIM release it — or will they? So as users would you like to see this application released? What if it came at an additional cost? Would you pay a monthly fee to RIM for it or a one time fee to be abale to have that functionality? Let us know if the comments how you would feel about it, maybe we can let RIM know that this application is indeed wanted.
Bless !!
