Posted by ShopinJA in Entertainment Buzz on July 8th, 2010
DETAINED danchehall act Vybz Kartel should know if he will be freed for the weekend when his detention order expires tomorrow.

Kartel was detained last week Friday and underwent intense questioning after turning himself in to the Greater Portmore Police Station, some three days after the police named him and five other men as major persons of interest.
The artiste, whose given name is Adijah Palmer, was questioned in relation to criminal gangs in Portmore, St Catherine.
Chris Tavares-Finson, one of Kartel’s lawyers, said he was hopeful the deejay would be released.
“His detention order is up tomorrow. We are hoping that they will release him,” Tavares-Finson told the Observer moments ago.
If released, the artiste should be able to honour a booking he has to perform in Ocho Rios.

Passa Passa will return

Since the conflict arising in Kingston and St Andrew over the extradition warrant issued for Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, there have been numerous postponements and cancellations of events.
While some promoters await freedom, others question their fate.

Popular selector Tony Matterhorn gets a bumper crowd riled up at Passa Passa on Spanish Town Road.
The promoters of Passa Passa, Prodigal Entertainment, Swash International and Dylan Powe, have said since the outbreak of civil unrest in Tivoli Gardens, there has been no Passa Passa, the dance which has gained for Jamaica, and that community, significant international acclaim.
“The last Passa Passa was kept in April and the turnout was not much because of the tension,” said Powe.
According to the promoter, because of the circumstances surrounding the Kingston conflict, no permits could be granted for outdoor events in the Corporate Area.
Passa Passa isn’t the only dance affected by the state of emergency imposed on the Corporate Area and according to Powe, he and his fellow promoters have always subscribed to the wishes of the security forces and are now just waiting until there is a change.
“Passa Passa is a brand,” he said.
FEMALE SINGER BEATS UP WOMAN?

Popular local singer Aisha Davis is now before the court after she was accused of beating up a co-tenant at her house.
Davis appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday after she was charged with unlawful wounding.
Her attorney entered a not guilty plea when her client appeared before Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.
The complainant told the court that she and Davis are co-tenants and share a kitchen together at their home. She informed the court that she was assaulted after she had a disagreement over the usage of kitchen utensils and the division of kitchen space.
The complainant further told the court that Davis often spoke in a condecending manner, as if she is a child. She alleged that on the day in question, Davis attacked her and knocked her partially unconscious.
The complainant said that she was also dragged along the ground, pinned to the ground and repeatedly punched in the face while she was on the ground.
The complainant said she was later rescued by her boyfriend who was elsewhere in the house, but came to her aid after he heard the uproar. She said when she regained full consciousness, her boyfriend told her that he had to remove a knife from her attacker’s grasp.
The Grants Pen police are said to have been called to the location.
