BOLT’S NEW FAST CAR

Yesterday after getting his latest toy, a 2010 Nissan GTR, world 100m record holder, Usain Bolt, was invited to take his car this weekend to Dover for a gentlemanly race.

Bolt was invited after JRDC Driver’s Championship contender, Douglas ‘Hollywood’ Gore heard of his new acquisition. Gore also invited former record holder, Asafa Powell to the event as well.

The Nissan GTR replaces a 2009 BMW M3 which Bolt overturned on the Highway 2000 toll road earlier this year. Asafa Powell is also the proud owner of a Black Series CLK C63 Mercedes, which is the 575 hp version of the already hot Kompressor C-Class.

Exotic supercar
Bolt, the fastest man in the world, drove away in the exotic supercar after a brief photo opportunity at Worldtron Motors, Chelsea Avenue, St Andrew, yesterday. The twin turbo charged Nissan GTR is rated at 485 hp and has a top speed of 190+ mph. Purchase price is estimated at more than 110,000 pounds sterling (J$15,400,000).

In describing Bolt’s new car, Gore said: “The M3 was more of a sporting sedan; I think the GTR is probably one of the ultimate sports cars. Knowing that it is a four wheel drive vehicle with traction aids, it should give Bolt more control. It is easier to drive and safer at speed.”

Usain Bolt 9.81 100m Race @ 2009 Zurich Golden League

Bolt wins, Richards stays in hunt for $1 million

ZURICH — Usain Bolt shook off Jamaican teammate Asafa Powell to win the 100 meters in 9.81 seconds at the Weltklasse meet on Friday.

Bolt, the world and Olympic champion, trailed Powell halfway into the race then used his huge stride to pull ahead and eased up in the last couple of yards. Powell finished in 9.88, followed by two Americans, Darvis Patton in 9.95 and Michael Rodgers in 9.98.

In his first race since smashing world records in the 100 and 200 at the world championships in Berlin, Bolt did not crush his rivals. But he still had enough to win ahead of Powell, the former world record-holder.

World champion Sanya Richards of the United States stayed in the hunt for the $1 million Golden League jackpot by powering home for an easy victory in the 400.

Richards won in 48.94 seconds on Friday, the fastest time in the world this year. Allyson Felix of the United States, the 200-meter world champion in Berlin last week, was second in 49.83. Shericka Williams of Jamaica, the 400 silver medalist, was third in 50.40.

“I stayed in my race and waited till the top when I knew I’d be strong,” Richards said. “The jackpot for some reason doesn’t add a lot of pressure or stress on me. I’m going in very confident that as long as I execute I know I can win.”

Richards needs to win the 400 in the last Golden League meet in Brussels next week to be one of the jackpot winners. The jackpot goes to the athletes who win their event in all six of the Golden League meets.

Bolt elevates his game on biggest stages

Left to Right: Silver Medalist Alonso Edward (Panama) 19.81 | Gold Medalist Usain Bolt (Jamaica) 19.19 | Bronze Medalist Wallace Spearman (USA) 19.85

BERLIN, Germany (AP) - All over the city hang posters of Usain Bolt, his smile radiating, his hands held high in triumph as he crosses the finish line.

Under the image is a simple phrase - “Who faster?”

As if that’s even open for discussion anymore.

Bolt was dazzling yet again, breaking another world record at the World Championships. This time, it was the 200 metres, which he finished in 19.19 seconds. He shattered his old world record by a whopping .11 seconds, the same margin he trimmed off the 100 earlier in the competition, when he finished in 9.58.

These days, no one can catch him. No one can even push him.

“Who faster?”

How about who wants second?

“I didn’t have that on my mind,” Bolt said of the world record. “But I got it right so I’m just happy with myself.”

Got it right, indeed.

In his race Thursday, the Jamaican went all out, holding nothing back. He grunted all the way through the race, trying to propel himself to the finish a little faster.

And just like at the Olympics in Beijing - when he started shattering records - his only competition was the clock. Even that didn’t stand a chance. Bolt beat Alonso Edward of Panama by .62 seconds - a landslide in sprinting.
