Usain Bolt 9.81 100m Race @ 2009 Zurich Golden League

Bolt wins, Richards stays in hunt for $1 million

ZURICH — Usain Bolt shook off Jamaican teammate Asafa Powell to win the 100 meters in 9.81 seconds at the Weltklasse meet on Friday.

Bolt, the world and Olympic champion, trailed Powell halfway into the race then used his huge stride to pull ahead and eased up in the last couple of yards. Powell finished in 9.88, followed by two Americans, Darvis Patton in 9.95 and Michael Rodgers in 9.98.

In his first race since smashing world records in the 100 and 200 at the world championships in Berlin, Bolt did not crush his rivals. But he still had enough to win ahead of Powell, the former world record-holder.

World champion Sanya Richards of the United States stayed in the hunt for the $1 million Golden League jackpot by powering home for an easy victory in the 400.

Richards won in 48.94 seconds on Friday, the fastest time in the world this year. Allyson Felix of the United States, the 200-meter world champion in Berlin last week, was second in 49.83. Shericka Williams of Jamaica, the 400 silver medalist, was third in 50.40.

“I stayed in my race and waited till the top when I knew I’d be strong,” Richards said. “The jackpot for some reason doesn’t add a lot of pressure or stress on me. I’m going in very confident that as long as I execute I know I can win.”

Richards needs to win the 400 in the last Golden League meet in Brussels next week to be one of the jackpot winners. The jackpot goes to the athletes who win their event in all six of the Golden League meets.

(CNN) — Entertainer Michael Jackson has died after being taken to a hospital on Thursday after suffering cardiac arrest, according to multiple reports including the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press. CNN has not confirmed his death.

Jackson had been in a coma at the hospital, sources told CNN after paramedics revived him at his home.

Brian Oxman, a Jackson family attorney, said he was told by brother Randy Jackson that Michael Jackson collapsed at his home in west Los Angeles Thursday morning.

Family members were told of the situation and were either at the hospital or en route, Oxman said.

Fire Capt. Steve Ruda told CNN a 911 call came in from a west Los Angeles residence at 12:21 p.m.

Ruda said Jackson was treated and transferred to the UCLA Medical Center.

Asked specifics of the patient’s condition, he said he could not discuss them because of federal privacy laws.

The music icon from Gary, Indiana, is known as the “King of Pop.”

Jackson is the seventh of nine children in a well-known musical family.

At the medical center, every entrance to the emergency room was blocked by security guards. Even hospital staffers were not permitted to enter. A few people stood inside the waiting area, some of them crying.

Career Coaching

BY DAVID PITT AP Personal Finance Writer | Sunday, June 21, 2009
Are you unemployed or frustrated in a dead-end career and looking for change?
Many people are thinking it’s time for a career coach to help find a new - or better - job. Don’t rush in though, there are plenty of pitfalls in this rapidly growing business.

About 60 to 70 per cent of the people seeking coaching services are looking for a job, said Joel Garfinkle, an Oakland, California-based career coach and author. They may be unemployed or may have reached a point in their careers where they need a change. The other 30 to 40 per cent are working on their career and want help with a promotion, communication skills or just to more narrowly define career goals.

A coach can help you to focus on your skills and think more broadly about the types of jobs for which you qualify. They can also help you work through personal issues that may be in the way of successfully landing a job such as appearance, interviewing, preparing a good résumé and cover letters, said Garfinkle, who has provided individual coaching and executive coaching services for 12 years.

He is working with a larger number of clients who are unemployed for the first time in their careers, wondering how to start a job search.

“There’s a shock. They call and say, ‘Oh my God, I’ve never had to look for a job, ever’,” he said.

WHY WOULD I NEED A COACH
