Really Sad to read about something like this, more so that it resulted in the death of a student. Back in my school days, one would never imagine the day when a cell phone would be allowed in schools, to the point where ‘every’ student has a cell phone, yeah its convenient, but something like this should be done in moderation, and them beyond that, seems every student has a knife now

One auto school student killed, second serious in hospital

A student from the Kingston-based Jamaican German Automotive School died in hospital yesterday while another was battling for life last night following a late morning dispute over a cellular phone at the school.

Up to press time yesterday the name of the deceased was not released, but a school official gave the ages of the students involved in the fight as 18 and 19 years respectively.

“About 11:00 am the two students had an argument which later turned into an altercation,” said Colin Barrett, the automotive school’s senior director of human resource planning and development.

“During the argument, it is reported that knives were drawn; the two students received stab wounds they were both rushed to hospital,” said Barrett.

Police yesterday said the student succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at hospital.
Staff members yesterday spoke in hushed tones about the incident, but the sad faces of some students told the story of the deadly ordeal.

“Right now is pure craziness; all now me can’t believe what happened,” said one obviously shocked student as he was about to leave the school compound, a section of which was cordoned off by the police.

“One of the youth had recently graduated from the school and was just doing some classes to finish up other studies,” said another student, who claimed that the two had a long-standing feud.

As a result of the deadly incident, school officials suspended classes for the day. Members of staff were also given counselling.
